Carrier - Front End (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the front fascia. See Fascia - Front (Remove and Install).
  4. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working height, and lower the lift onto locks.

    CAUTION

    Make sure there is an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise the vehicle may tilt to one side.

    Make sure that the doors are clear of surrounding objects.

  5. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the lower LH and RH of the cooling fan module to the front support beam.

    With assistance, lift up on the cooling fan module to ease the removal of the bolts.

    • 8 mm socket
  6. Remove the ankle catcher. See Ankle Catcher (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect the impact sensor connectors (x2) below the LH and RH sides of the front bumper beam.

    Note
    Do not push down on the red tab. Pull the red tab to disengage the lock, and then pull it again to release the connector.
  8. Remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the front bumper beam with the energy absorbers to the LH and RH crush cans.

  9. Remove the front bumper beam from the crush cans.

    Note
    Use a pry bar as needed between the crush cans and the front bumper beam to help release.
  10. Remove the LH and RH front end module connectors from the front end carrier.
  11. Remove the FEM (front end module) harness from the front end carrier (4x clips, 2x connectors, 1x tab, 1x locking tab).
  12. Remove the LH bolt on the top of the front end carrier. Repeat this step for the RH side.

  13. Remove the front end carrier assembly from the vehicle.
  14. Use a bungee cord to support the center fan module.

    Note
    Install the bungee cord under and across the cooling fan module assembly, ensure that the anchors are fully inserted into the crush can opening.
  15. With a paint pen, mark the bolts that attach the hood latch assembly to the front end carrier, and then remove the bolts.

  16. Remove the bolts that attach the hood latch actuator to the front end carrier.

  17. Remove the bolts (x4) and release the tabs (x2) that attach the upper leg support to the front end carrier.

  18. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the radar sensor.
  19. Release the holding tab that attaches the radar sensor to the front radar sensor bracket, and then remove the sensor from the bracket.
  20. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the front radar bracket to the front end carrier, and then remove the radar bracket from the assembly.

  21. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach LH and RH lower grille FEM brackets to the front end carrier.

Install

  1. Install the bolts (x2) that attach LH and RH lower grille FEM brackets to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  2. Position the front radar bracket onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the bracket to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  3. Install the front radar into the radar bracket.
  4. Connect the electrical harness connector to the radar sensor.
  5. Install the bolts (x4) and tabs (x2) that attach the upper leg support to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  6. Position the hood latch actuator onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts that attach the hood latch actuator to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  7. Position the hood latch assembly onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts that attach the hood latch assembly to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Align the bolts paint marks to keep the hood alignment.

  8. With assistance, remove the bungee cord from the cooling fan module.
  9. Position the front end carrier assembly onto the vehicle.
  10. Install the LH bolt on top of the front end carrier. Repeat this step for the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

  11. Install the ankle catcher. See Ankle Catcher (Remove and Replace).
  12. Torque the bolts that attach the LH and RH of the cooling fan module to the front support beam.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  13. Install the LH and RH front end module connectors to the front end carrier.
  14. Install the FEM (front end module) harness to the front end carrier (4x clips, 2x connectors, 1x tab, 1x locking tab).
  15. Install the LH and RH front end module connectors to the front end carrier.
  16. Install the front bumper beam to the crush cans.

    Use a dead blow hammer as needed with proper force to install.
  17. Install the new bolts (x4) that attach the front bumper beam with the energy absorbers to the LH and RH crush cans.
    75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)

  18. Connect the impact sensor connectors (x2) below the LH and RH sides of the front bumper beam.

    Engage the locking tab.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Install the front fascia. See Fascia - Front (Remove and Install).
  21. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
