Door Ring Inner with Header Reinforcement

Repair Information

  1. Review all collision repair general practices and safety documentation and wear the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) before beginning this procedure.
  2. Properly mount the vehicle on a frame bench when performing this procedure.
  3. Any individual section or any combination of sections of the Door Ring Inner can be replaced so long as the referenced cut lines from the Door Ring Inner Section Descriptions portion of this document are used.
  4. In the area shown in green below, bent sections may be repaired using cold methods only.

    If the component is damaged in the area shown in red, the component should be replaced. If necessary, contact Tesla Collision Repair for assistance.

Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the necessary portion of the Door Ring Outer.
  2. For the Front Sill section repair only: Remove the Side Sill Insert (Front Section).
  3. For the Rear Sill section repair or the Door Ring Inner Complete repair: Remove the Side Sill Insert (Complete).
  4. If replacing a section of the Door Ring Inner: Mark the Door Ring Inner at the section cut line locations described in the Door Ring Inner Section Descriptions.
  5. Remove the original component.

  6. For section repairs only: Create backing plates or reinforcement plates as described in the Door Ring Inner Section Descriptions.
  7. Prepare for installation.

  8. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  9. For section repairs only: Install reinforcement plates as described in the Door Ring Inner Section Descriptions.
  10. Install the new component or components.

    Torque bolts installed horizontally to 31 Nm. and torque bolts installed vertically to 35 Nm.

  11. Perform resistance spot welding.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  12. For the Front Sill section repair only: Install the Side Sill Insert (Front Section).
  13. For the Rear Sill section repair or the Door Ring Inner Complete repair: Install the Side Sill Insert (Complete).
  14. Install the fasteners as indicated.

  15. Install the necessary portion of the Door Ring Outer.
  16. Install the fastener as indicated.

  17. Install the portion of the Body Side Outer that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
  18. Install the fasteners as indicated.

  19. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
