Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the original component.

  2. Grind the raised portions of the COLLAR - SUBFRAME FRONT (highlighted in red) to make a flat mating surface.
  3. Cut an opening in the FRONT SUBFRAME SUPPORT PANEL for a GMA weld.

    • A = 56 mm
    • B = 24 mm
    • C = 24 mm
    • D = 5 mm

  4. Prepare for installation.

    Drill an 11 mm hole for each Steel Plug Weld.

    Use the bolt and a frame bench fixture to position the BRACKET - SUBFRAME CAP ATTACHMENT and the COLLAR - SUBFRAME FRONT for GMA welding.

  5. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.

    Note
    Do not apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces between the COLLAR - SUBFRAME FRONT and the BRACKET - SUBFRAME CAP ATTACHMENT.
  6. Install the new component or components.
    Torque the bolt to 10 Nm.

    Note
    Tighten the bolt to fully seat the COLLAR - SUBFRAME FRONT to the BRACKET - SUBFRAME CAP ATTACHMENT before GMA welding.
  7. Perform GMA welding.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.

    Before GMA welding, a test weld using material of the same gauge and type should be performed to make sure that the welding equipment settings produce a satisfactory joint.

    Once GMA welding is complete, remove and discard the bolt that secures the COLLAR - SUBFRAME FRONT to the BRACKET - SUBFRAME CAP ATTACHMENT.
  8. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
