Front Frame Rail Cap Repair Guidelines

Explains how to determine if the Front Frame Rail End Cap can be repaired or if replacement is required.

The image below shows the Front Frame Rail End Cap and contains highlighted areas. Compare the damaged area of the vehicle's Front Frame Rail End Cap to the image below, then use the repair criteria corresponding to the color of the highlighted area to find the criteria to use to determine if the damaged area of the component can be repaired.

Based on the colors used in the images above, the allowed repairs are as follows:

Green areas:

Bent plate sections may be straightened using cold methods, if the bent section is 14 mm. or more below the frame rail (or at least 8 mm. below the weld that attaches the End Cap to the bottom of the Frame Rail).

If fractures are present on the Front Rail End Cap before or after repair, the component must be replaced.

Red areas:

None; if the component is damaged in these areas, the component must be replaced.

Before contacting Tesla Body Repair:
  1. Take photos of each of damaged area of the component. (Show each damaged area from several angles.)
  2. Measure each damaged area.
  3. For each damaged area, note if there are missing pieces or damage to threaded holes.
