Frame - Back Rest - Driver (Model YL) (Remove and Install)

Warning
Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Torque Specifications

Remove

  1. Remove the driver seat back cover and foam assembly. See Cover - Back Rest - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
    Note
    During removal, certain steps require extra care. See the animation(s) for detailed guidance.
  2. Remove the driver headrest post guide. See Headrest Post Guide - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the driver seat LH and RH insulators. See Insulator - Back Rest - Driver - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the driver seat outboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Model YL / Model Y Performance) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the driver seat inboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove and discard the inboard and outboard bolts (x4) that attach the seatback frame to the seat cushion frame.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T50 socket
  7. Rotate the seatback frame away from the cushion frame, and lift the seatback frame straight up to remove it from the cushion frame.

Install

  1. Place the seatback frame onto the cushion frame for installation.
  2. Install new inboard and outboard bolts (x4) that attach the seatback frame to the seat cushion frame.
    43 Nm (31.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T50 socket
  3. Install the driver seat outboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Model YL / Model Y Performance) (Remove and Replace).
  4. Install the driver seat inboard side shield carrier. See Carrier - Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the driver seat LH and RH insulators. See Insulator - Back Rest - Driver - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the driver seat headrest post guide. See Headrest Post Guide - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the driver seat back cover and foam assembly. See Cover - Back Rest - Driver Seat (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
