Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the original component.

  2. Prepare for installation.

  3. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  4. Install the new component or components.

    Note
    Torque the bolt to 22 Nm.

    Note
    For all rivets installed through the Torque Box Cover Assembly and into the cabin of the vehicle, make sure the rivets do not rub against the under-carpet insulation pad. If necessary, trim the insulation pad slightly to provide clearance.
  5. Perform resistance spot welding.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  6. After painting is complete, use a butyl patch to cover the highlighted rivets. Use several small butyl patches if necessary.
  7. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
