B–Pillar Outer (Lower)

Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the necessary portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly to expose the underlying component being replaced.
  2. Remove the B-Pillar Outer (Lower) from the new Door Ring Outer service as indicated below to make the new component.
  3. Remove the original component.

    When drilling out spot welds, use a drill bit that creates a hole correctly sized for the fastener that will replace the spot weld.
  4. Prepare for installation.

    or Countersunk Rivets, 4.8 mm Short
    • A = 30 mm.
    • B = 19 mm.
    • C = 46 mm.
    • D = 33 mm.
    • E = 51 mm.
    • F = 36 mm.

    or Structural Rivets, 6.5 mm Short

  5. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  6. Install the new component or components.
  7. Perform resistance spot welding.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  8. Install the portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
  9. Install the fastener as indicated.
  10. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
