Front Frame Rail Cap Repair Guidelines

Explains how to determine if the Front Frame Rail Cap can be repaired or if replacement is necessary.

Compare the damaged area of the vehicle's Front Frame Rail Cap to the image below, then use the repair criteria corresponding to the color of the highlighted area to find the criteria to use to determine if the damaged area of the component can be repaired.

If fractures are present on the Front Rail End Cap before or after repair, the component must be replaced.
  • Bent plate sections may be straightened using cold methods.

    Note
    Do not use heat methods to straighten plate sections.
  • Deformations of the weld securing the Front Frame Rail Cap to the underside of the Front Frame Rail can be repaired by grinding and re-welding.

    Note
    If the side welds or the top weld securing the Front Frame Rail Cap and the Front Frame Rail are damaged or deformed, the component must be replaced.
