Note
Order if changing Gen1 B-Pillar to Gen2. Can be locally sourced.
If the vehicle was equipped with a bow header: 4 Bolt, hex-head Tesla part number 1004537-00-A.
If the vehicle was equipped with a bow header: 4 Flow Form Rivet S38

When ordering parts, refer to the Parts Catalog and enter the VIN of the vehicle being repaired to find the correct parts (and the part numbers) for the vehicle. Alternatively, use the search function in the Parts Catalog to find a specific part for the vehicle.

Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the necessary portion of the Body Side Outer to expose the underlying component being replaced.
  2. If the vehicle was equipped with a bow header: Detach the Bow Header.

  3. Detach the base of the B-Pillar.
    Depending on the build date of the vehicle, it may be secured in two different ways.

  4. Remove the original component.

  5. Cut and prepare the new B-PILLAR COMPLETE as indicated to make the new components.

  6. Attach backing plates to Roof Rail Outer panel.

  7. Attach backing plate to A-Pillar Inner Panel.

    Before GMA welding, a test weld using material of the same gauge and type should be performed to make sure that the welding equipment settings produce a satisfactory joint.
  9. For vehicles built through October 11, 2016: Install the Gusset Ramp on the Sill.
    Refer to the installation instructions in the B–Pillar Gusset Ramp repair procedure.
  10. Prepare for installation.

    Note
    Install washers (WASHER, M8x24, 2MM) between the B-Pillar and the B-Pillar Gusset Ramp if there is a gap of 2mm or less. If there is a gap between B-Pillar and the B-Pillar Gusset Ramp of more than 2mm, discontinue this procedure and contact Tesla Collision Repair.

  11. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  12. Install the new component or components.
    Torque the bolts to 25 Nm.
  13. Perform GMA welding.

  14. Install the portion of the Body Side Outer that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
  15. If the vehicle was equipped with a bow header: Attach the Bow Header.

    Torque the bolts to 10 Nm.

  16. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
