Model S B–Pillar Generation Identification
Explains the differences between the two generations of the Model S B-Pillar.
Vehicles manufactured before October 12, 2016 originally came with a 1st generation B-Pillar, and vehicles manufactured on or after October 12, 2016 originally came with a 2nd generation B-Pillar.
The generation of B-Pillar installed in the vehicle affects the type of flow form rivets used to attach the Body Side Outer to the B-Pillar Gusset:
Vehicles with a 1st Generation B-Pillar The 1st generation B-Pillar has a separate gusset assembly that is attached to the B-Pillar with bolts (highlighted) and to the Sill with MIG welds. |

Vehicles with a 2nd Generation B-Pillar The 2nd generation B-Pillar has a gusset that is an integral part of the B-Pillar. This gusset is bolted to the B-Pillar Gusset Ramp (highlighted). |
