Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the Air Extractor - Outer - LH (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the Bumper Assembly - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the Faring - Rocker Panel - LH R&R.
  4. Remove the Door Assembly - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the MS Closure Components - Closure Assist Mechanisms and Hinges - Front and Rear Door Hinges and Fittings - Rear Door Upper Hinge - LH (RR).
  6. Remove the MS Closure Components - Closure Assist Mechanisms and Hinges - Front and Rear Door Hinges and Fittings - Rear Door Lower Hinge - LH (RR).
  7. Remove the Brightwork - Body side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the Body Glass - Rear Quarter - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the Fascia Assembly - Rear (Remove and Install).
  10. Remove the Taillight Assembly - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the Charge Port (GB/T Charging Standard) (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the Molding - Rocker Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  13. Separate the rear wheel arch flange.
  14. Remove the original component.
    Note
    If replacing only a section of the Rear Quarter Outer: Remove only the fasteners in the section being removed.

    Note
    When drilling out spot welds, use a drill bit that creates a hole correctly sized for the fastener that will replace the spot weld.
  15. Prepare for installation.
    Note
    A red X indicates a location where a factory-installed fastener is not being replaced. Secure this location using structural adhesive only.

  16. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  17. Install the new component or components.
  18. Fold over the wheel arch flange.
  19. If replacing a section of the Quarter Outer Skin: Perform GMA welding.

    GMA Weld

    Warning
    Failure to follow all welding safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, could result in serious injury or property damage. Only technicians who have completed Tesla’s approved welding training are authorized to weld structural components on Tesla vehicles.
    Warning
    To maintain vehicle crash integrity, use only approved welding wire and an approved GMA welder to perform GMA welding on Tesla vehicles. Refer to Approved Gas Metal Arc (GMA) Welders and Welding Wire for information on approved GMA welders and welding wire.
    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
    Note
    Before GMA welding, a test weld using material of the same gauge and type should be performed to make sure that the welding equipment settings produce a satisfactory joint.
  20. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
  21. Install the Molding - Rocker Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the Charge Port (GB/T Charging Standard) (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the Taillight Assembly - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the Fascia Assembly - Rear (Remove and Install).
  25. Install the Body Glass - Rear Quarter - LH (Remove and Install).
  26. Install the Brightwork - Body side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the MS Closure Components - Closure Assist Mechanisms and Hinges - Front and Rear Door Hinges and Fittings - Rear Door Lower Hinge - LH (RR).
  28. Install the MS Closure Components - Closure Assist Mechanisms and Hinges - Front and Rear Door Hinges and Fittings - Rear Door Upper Hinge - LH (RR).
  29. Install the Door Assembly - Rear - LH (Remove and Install).
  30. Install the Faring - Rocker Panel - LH R&R.
  31. Install the Bumper Assembly - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  32. Install the Air Extractor - Outer - LH (Remove and Replace).
