Remove the Main Neutral-Ground Bonding Screw from Gateway 3 if Not Installed as Service Equipment

Proper earth connection and neutral-to-ground bonding is required for safe operation of the system and for compliance with local code requirements. There must be exactly one Neutral-Earth bond in the electrical panel closest to the utility feed.

Warning
To ensure safe operation in Backup Mode, a local earth connection must be present on the site such as by earth rod or ground electrode. Connection of earth rod must comply with local codes.

Gateway Installed as Service Equipment (Contains Main Breaker)

When Gateway 3 includes the main service disconnect, it must contain the Neutral-Earth bond, so the factory-installed main neutral-ground bonding screw must be left installed.

Gateway NOT Installed as Service Equipment (Panel Upstream of Gateway)

When Gateway 3 does not include the main service disconnect (when there is an electrical panel upstream of the Gateway), the factory-installed main neutral-ground bonding screw must be removed.
Figure 2. Neutral-Ground Bonding Screw Removed
  • If removing the bonding screw, use a 7/16-inch socket to remove the main neutral-ground bonding screw.
  • If replacing the main neutral-ground bonding screw, torque to 80 in-lbs (9 N-m).
