Gateway CTs and Neurio CTs are Overlapping

All loads, solar, and batteries should be monitored by Site CTs exactly once (ensure no measurements are not doubled, which can occur when multiple CTs are measuring the same thing). Standalone third party solar inverters must also be monitored by Solar CTs (Powerwall+ and Tesla Solar Inverter performs their own Solar monitoring).

Note
As a general rule, all meters are "positive toward the load." Site is positive when importing, solar is positive when producing, and battery is positive when discharging.

Site Monitoring

For a site with whole home backup, all site loads are monitored by either the Gateway or the Backup Switch, and no additional CTs should be installed to measure site loads.

For a site with partial home backup, non-backup loads connected to the non-backup lugs of the Backup Gateway are monitored by the Gateway (Meter X), and no additional CTs should be installed to measure them. Non-backup loads left upstream of the Gateway must be monitored using Site CTs connected to the Gateway (Meter Y) or a Neurio meter:

  • If the non-backup loads are within 100 m of the Gateway, they can be monitored by the Gateway using field-installed Tesla 100 A CTs plugged into the Gateway (Meter Y).
  • If the non-backup loads are greater than 100 m from the Gateway, they can be monitored by a field-installed Neurio meter and Neurio 200 A CTs.

    Note
The Neurio meter must be able to communicate with the Gateway; see Advanced Methods for Connecting Out-of-Range Neurio Meters to Site Controller if having difficulty pairing the Neurio meter with the Gateway.
  • The conductors for the upstream non-backup loads can be grouped to capture all of them.
  • For Gateway 2, ensure the feeder breaker for the Gateway is excluded from the non-backup conductors being monitored.

Solar Monitoring

Each solar source must be monitored with a Solar CT.
  • If the solar conductors are within 100 m of the Gateway, they can be monitored by the Gateway using field-installed Tesla 100 A CTs plugged into the Gateway (Meter Y).
  • If the solar conductors are greater than 100 m from the Gateway, they can be monitored by a field-installed Neurio meter and Neurio 200 A CT.

    Note
The Neurio meter be able to communicate with the Gateway; see Advanced Methods for Connecting Out-of-Range Neurio Meters to Site Controller if having difficulty pairing the Neurio meter with the Gateway.
  • Verify that only the conductor(s) for the inverter breaker(s) are being captured, and no other load conductors are being captured.
