Symptoms

When the backup test is performed, Powerwall / Powerwall+ supplies the loads but the solar inverter stops producing power.

Steps to Troubleshoot

1. Check the State of Energy (SOE). If it is close to 100%, Powerwall / Powerwall+ will trigger solar production to shut off by frequency shifting to avoid damaging Powerwall. This is expected Powerwall behavior. Wait for SOE to drop by 10%, then retry the backup test if the issue persists.
2. Ensure solar production does not exceed the available charge rate of Powerwall / Powerwall+. See the Powerwall Installation Design Guidelines for system sizing examples. If solar is in excess of 5 kW per Powerwall on site (which can cause frequency shifting), reduce solar production for off-grid testing:
   • For sites with multiple solar inverters, turn all but one solar inverter off.
   • For sites with only one solar inverter, unplug one or more strings at the inverter.
3. If the Powerwall / Powerwall+ has a low temperature (for instance, it was stored in a cold place immediately prior to installation):
   • Leave solar on and return by mid-day the following day to perform off-grid testing.
   • Leave solar on and wait for inspection to perform off-grid testing (if unable to return the following day).
