Backup Gateway 2 / Powerwall+ / Solar Inverter Wi-Fi Network is Not Broadcasting

Symptoms

After scanning the QR label to connect to the Wi-Fi network, an Identifying device... status appears but the Device Setup interface never launches.

Steps to Troubleshoot

  1. Apple Users: If prompted, allow Tesla One to find and connect to devices on the local network. This is required to connect to the Backup Gateway 2 / Powerwall+ / Solar Inverter Wi-Fi network. If the prompt does not automatically appear, permission can be granted by selecting Settings > Apps > Tesla One > Local Network.
  2. Android Users: If prompted, allow Location Consent. This is required to connect to the Backup Gateway 2 / Powerwall+ / Solar Inverter Wi-Fi network. If the prompt does not automatically appear, permission can be granted by selecting Settings > Apps > Tesla One > Location.
  3. Scan for Wi-Fi networks on the commissioning phone, looking for one of the following, where "xxx" are the last three digits of the Site Controller serial number:
    • TEG-xxx (where Gateway or Powerwall+ is the Site Controller)
    • TeslaPV-xxx (where Tesla Solar Inverter is the Site Controller)
If the network appears but the commissioning phone does not connect to it, see Backup Gateway 2 / Powerwall+ / Solar Inverter Wi-Fi Network is Broadcasting but I Cannot Connect.
  4. Make sure all breakers / disconnects on the supply side are closed (ON). If turning a breaker / disconnect ON, wait at least 5 minutes after powering on before proceeding.
  5. If the system is installed with Powerwall+, turn the Enable switch OFF then ON.
  6. Confirm the Site Controller LED is ON, indicating the device is powered:
    Backup Gateway 2 LED
    Powerwall+ LED
Tesla Solar Inverter with Site Controller
  7. Confirm voltage measurement of 120V +/-5% for L1-N in the Site Controller AC terminals.
  8. Restart the system:
    • If the system is installed with Backup Gateway, push and hold the Gateway Reset button for 5 seconds (1 below).
Figure 1. Reset Button Location on Gateway 2
    • If the system has only Solar Inverter, turn the Solar Inverter breaker OFF then ON.
  9. Search for Wi-Fi networks again to see if the Wi-Fi network has begun broadcasting.
