Correction Code 10013102

  • 2025-11-28: Added instructions for installing (and modifying) trailer hitch if bumper beam is unavailable.

Installation

If the rear bumper assembly is available as a separate part: Installation procedure is the reverse of removal.

If the rear bumper is no longer available, follow these steps to install a trailer hitch assembly:

  1. Check whether the vehicle is homologated for a trailer hitch by inspecting the label on the B-pillar.
    • If the label mentions the total allowable weight of the vehicle and a trailer, install a trailer hitch. See Trailer Hitch (Remove and Replace).
    • If the label mentions only the total allowable weight of the vehicle without trailer, proceed with the next steps to install a non-functional trailer hitch:
  2. Remove the nut that attaches the trailer hitch ECU to the trailer hitch assembly, and then remove the ECU.
  3. Remove the screws (x2) that attach the bracket of the trailer hitch socket to the trailer hitch assembly.
  4. Remove the clips (x2) that attach the trailer hitch jumper harness to the trailer hitch assembly, and then remove the trailer hitch jumper harness.
  5. Remove the label from the trailer hitch.
  6. Clean the trailer hitch label area with IPA wipes, and allow 1 minute to dry.
  7. Install the 'NOT SUITABLE FOR TOWING' label onto the trailer hitch assembly.
