Remove
- Open the liftgate.

Use a telescopic stand to
support the liftgate.
NotePut a towel in between the stand and the liftgate to prevent damage to the liftgate trim.
- Disconnect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).

Release the liftgate assist strut from the body side ball stud.

Release the liftgate power
strut from the body side ball stud.

Remove the LH and RH liftgate strut body side ball stud from the
vehicle.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm deep socket

Install

Apply Loctite 243 on the threads of the new body
side liftgate ball studs, and then install the ball studs to the
vehicle.
24 Nm (17.7 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- 13 mm deep socket

Apply tape around the LH and
RH liftgate strut body ball studs.
NoteCut a 20mm diameter hole to a piece of masking tape min. 3 cm wide and 10 cm in length. Draw the hole with the aid of a socket with 20mm external diameter.
Figure 3. LH side shown, RH side similar - Clean the LH and RH body side ball studs with IPA wipes. Allow 1 minute to dry.

Apply 2 layers of touch up paint to the LH and RH body side ball studs. Do
not apply paint to the ball end.
NoteAllow the first coat of paint to dry for 20 minutes before applying the second coat.
- Remove masking tape from around LH and RH body side ball studs.
- Install assist and power struts onto the body side ball studs.
- Remove the liftgate support stand.
- Connect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Close the liftgate.
