Only technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn any time a high voltage cable is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, "High Voltage Awareness Care Points" for additional safety information.

Note
This procedure only applies to vehicles with the 1st generation High Voltage configuration.

Removal

  1. Activate Jack Mode.
  2. Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the tabs (x2) that attach the particulate filter cover, and then remove the filter cover.
  4. Release the RH side of the cowl screen panel.
  5. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the particulate filter housing (torque 10 Nm), and then remove the housing from the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  7. Perform the vehicle HV disablement procedure (refer to procedure).
  8. Remove the RH front wheel (refer to procedure).
  9. Remove the RH front wheel arch liner (refer to procedure).
  10. Disconnect the DCDC converter to battery coolant heater HV harness connector.
  11. Feed the harness into the underhood storage unit well.
  12. Disconnect the DC to battery coolant heater LV harness connector.
  13. Position a container to collect any coolant.
  14. Clamp the feed and return coolant hoses.
  15. Release the clips (x2) that attach the inlet and outlet coolant hoses to the battery coolant heater. Release the hoses from the heater.
  16. Release the clips (x3) that attach the wiring harness to the battery coolant heater.
  17. Remove the bolts (x2) and nut (x1) that attach the battery coolant heater bracket to the body (torque 8 Nm).
  18. Remove the battery coolant heater.
  19. Remove the bolts (x4) that secure the battery coolant heater to the bracket (torque 9 Nm).
