Latch - Hood (Remove and Replace)

Choose the appropriate procedure based on the vehicle's configuration:

1st Generation RWD Vehicles - Primary Latch

Correction Code 11355202

Removal

  1. Remove the hood latch cover. See Assembly - Hood Latch Cover (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the latch assembly to the crossmember (torque 16 Nm).
  3. Release the latch assembly from the studs, then lower and disconnect the harness connector.
  4. Disconnect the hood release cable from the latch.
  5. Remove the primary latch assembly from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. After installation is complete, make sure the hood latches correctly:
    1. Open and fully close the hood by firmly pressing the hood down with both hands. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to ensure it is fully closed.
    2. Open the hood via the touchscreen or the key fob, then shut the hood against the vehicle body without engaging the striker into the hood primary latch. Shift the vehicle out of Park and back into Park. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to confirm that the hood is retained by the secondary latch.

1st Generation RWD Vehicles - Secondary Latch

Removal

  1. Remove the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the secondary latch to the crossmember (torque 10 Nm).

    Care must be taken to avoid fasteners falling into open cavity.
  3. Carefully release the secondary latch assembly and then rotate to access the harness connection.

  4. Disconnect the harness from the latch.

  5. Remove the latch assembly from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. Apply approximately 0.06 grams of RheoGel TEK676 grease to the areas shown.
  2. After installation is complete, make sure the hood latches correctly:
    1. Open and fully close the hood by firmly pressing the hood down with both hands. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to ensure it is fully closed.
    2. Open the hood via the touchscreen or the key fob, then shut the hood against the vehicle body without engaging the striker into the hood primary latch. Shift the vehicle out of Park and back into Park. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to confirm that the hood is retained by the secondary latch.

1st Generation Dual Motor Vehicles

Removal

  1. Remove the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the front fascia applique. See Applique - Fascia - Front - 2nd Generation (Remove and Install).
  3. Disconnect the harness from the LH side of the latch.
  4. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the latch to the crossmember (torque 10 Nm).

  5. Carefully lift the latch assembly and disconnect the hood latch cables (x2).
  6. Remove the latch assembly from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. Apply approximately 0.1 grams of RheoGel TEK676 grease to both of the areas shown.

  2. After installation is complete, make sure the hood latches correctly:
    1. Open and fully close the hood by firmly pressing the hood down with both hands. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to ensure it is fully closed.
    2. Open the hood via the touchscreen or the key fob, then shut the hood against the vehicle body without engaging the striker into the hood primary latch. Shift the vehicle out of Park and back into Park. Then try to lift the front end of the hood to confirm that the hood is retained by the secondary latch.

2nd Generation Vehicles

Correction Code 11355702

Removal

  1. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  2. Disconnect the harness from the LH side of the latch.
  3. Disconnect the release cables from the hood latch assembly.

    Release the edge clips from the carrier.
  4. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the front fascia bracket to the carrier assembly.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  5. Position the front fascia bracket away from the carrier assembly.

    Note
    Fold up the shop rags, insert underneath and between the front fascia bracket and carrier to create more space between the hood latch and the fascia.
  6. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the hood latch assembly to the carrier.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratcheting Combination wrench Flex head 10mm
  7. If equipped, remove and retain the hood latch spacers (x2), and then remove the hood latch from the vehicle.

Installation

  1. Position the hood latch to the vehicle and install the spacers (x2).
  2. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the hood latch assembly to the carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    • Ratcheting Combination wrench Flex head 10mm
  3. Remove the shop rags and position the front fascia bracket to its original position.
  4. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the front fascia bracket to the carrier assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)

  5. Connect the release cables to the hood latch assembly.
