Remove and Clean Radiator (Heat Pump) (Maintenance)

  • 2026-04-21: Released new procedure.
  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  4. Run the routine using Service Mode or Toolbox: PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAINvia Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Start Thermal Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Refrigerant System ➜ Start Refrigerant Fill/Drain
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain

  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6. Turn wheel fully to the right.
  7. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the front fascia. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the cooling fan assembly. See Module - Cooling Fan (Remove and Replace).
  10. Release the locking clips guides, and remove the 12mm radiator.
    Note
    Do not pry on the radiator to prevent damage.
  11. Use a vacuum to clean debris from both sides of the radiator.
    Note
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  12. Use a blow gun to clean both sides of the radiator with compressed air.
    Note
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  13. Release the locking clips (x4) and remove the 21mm radiator.
    Note
    Release one clip at a time.
  14. Use a vacuum to clean debris from both sides of the radiator.
    Note
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  15. Use a blow gun to clean the radiator with compressed air.
    Note
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  16. Secure the locking clips (x4) and install the 21mm radiator.

    Position then secure clips.
  17. Secure the locking clips (x2) and guides (x2) to install the 12mm radiator.
    Note
    Guide in then secure clips.
  18. Install the cooling fan assembly. See Module - Cooling Fan (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the front fascia. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  20. Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  21. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  22. Turn steering wheel back to center.
  23. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox (Connect and Disconnect).
  24. Run the routine PROC_VC_X_RESET-RADIATOR-UA-INDEXvia Toolbox:(link)

    Perform this step for firmware versions develop/2026.14.3 and later.

  26. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  27. Exit Service Mode Plus. See Service Mode Plus.
  28. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  29. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
