Brake Lines - 4 Tube Bundle - ABS to Wheels (1st Generation) (Remove and Replace)

This procedure is for vehicles built through April 24, 2019. For vehicles built after April 24, 2019, see Brake Lines - 4 Tube Bundle - ABS to Wheels (2nd Generation) (Remove and Replace).
Removal
-
Prepare the vehicle for lifting:
- Air suspension vehicles only: Put the vehicle into Jack mode.
- Put the vehicle into Tow mode.
- Support the vehicle, but do not lift it at this time.
- Recover the refrigerant from the vehicle. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the wiper motor assembly:
- Remove the 12V battery cage. See Cage - Battery - Auxiliary - 12V (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the A/C compressor. See Compressor (Remove and Replace).

Release the clips that
attach the hose to the condenser fan.

Release the brake pipes from
the ABS modulator (torque 23 Nm).
CAUTIONIf brake fluid is spilled on a painted surface, wash off immediately with clean water.CAUTIONPlug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.NoteComponents have been removed in this graphic to aid clarity.
- Remove the HV Battery. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install) .

Use a pole jack to support the front subframe.
WarningMake sure that the subframe is properly supported before continuing this procedure..

Loosen the bolts that attach
the front subframe to the body (torque 115 and 80 Nm).
CAUTIONDo not fully remove the bolts.
- Remove the wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install) .

Loosen the bolts that
attaches the ABS modulator bracket to the body (torque 5 Nm).

Loosen the nut that attaches
the brake pipe to the RH front brake hose, and then disconnect the brake
pipe from the hose (torque 14 Nm).
CAUTIONTo prevent damage always use a suitable wrench to hold the backing nut when loosening pipes and unions.NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.

Release the nuts the attach
the 2 tube bundle to the 4 tube bundle (torque 14 Nm).
CAUTIONClean the surrounding area prior to removing the component.CAUTIONTo prevent damage always use a suitable wrench to hold the backing nut when loosening pipes and unions.NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.CAUTIONIf brake fluid is spilled on a painted surface, wash off immediately with clean water.

Loosen the nut that attaches
the brake pipe to the LH brake hose, and then disconnect the brake pipe from
the hose (torque 14 Nm).
CAUTIONTo prevent damage always use a suitable wrench to hold the backing nut when loosening pipes and unions.CAUTIONPlug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.
Installation
Bleed the brakes. See Bleed or Flush Procedure - System (Remove and Replace) .
