Four Wheel Alignment Check and Adjust

  1. At the alignment rack, verify that the turn and slip plates are locked.
  2. On the touchscreen, touch Suspension and set "Ride Height" to Low.
  3. With the help on an assistant, align the vehicle to the alignment rack ramps, drive vehicle onto the alignment rack, and then shift into Park.
  4. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  5. Exit the vehicle and place the wheel chocks around LH rear wheel.
  6. Latch the driver seat belt to the driver buckle.
  7. Set the steering yoke to point straight ahead.

    Use the steering yoke bubble level fixture to confirm that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  8. Enter the vehicle and enable "Jack Mode".
  9. Shift the vehicle into Neutral.
  10. Turn off the climate control.
  11. Turn off the headlights.
  12. With the LH front door open, manually latch the door using a plastic trim tool or similar.

    CAUTION
    Do not close the door with the door latch engaged.
  13. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  14. Raise the alignment rack to a comfortable working height.
  15. Set the tire machine pressures to match those specified for the vehicle.

    Refer to the "Tire and Loading Information" label located on the driver side B-pillar.
  16. Install inflation hoses onto all four wheels so that the tire pressures can be set automatically.
  17. Verify chassis height measurement tool (1071271-00-A) is "zeroed" at 51 mm, and adjust if necessary.
  18. Remove the inflation hoses from all four wheel valve stems, and then reinstall the valve stem caps.
  19. Measure the vehicle ride height at the 4 designated points using the chassis height measurement tool (1071271-00-A) and verify that the measurements do not deviate more than +/- 5 mm from the specifications.

    Rear height specifications differ depending on the size of the rear tires.
  20. In Toolbox 3, click the Dashboards tab, and then select Tesla Air Suspension Calibration P2 (S/X) from the list.
  21. Click Step 1: Confirm that the wheelType configuration is set appropriately.
  22. On the vehicle touchscreen, set the "Ride Height" to Very High. Wait for the suspension to complete the level before continuing to the next step.
  23. On the vehicle touchscreen, set the "Ride Height" to Low. Wait for the suspension to complete the level before continuing to the next step.
  24. In Toolbox 3, click Calibrate Air Suspension, and then click Run.
  25. Perform the ride height measurements at the 4 designated points using the chassis height measurement tool (1071271-00-A).
  26. Type the new values into Toolbox, and then click Submit.
  27. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  28. Install the alignment heads onto all four wheels.

    Position the alignment heads near the center of the wheel. Adjust the side arms as necessary to grip the tires securely.
  29. Check that the front turn plates are centered on the tires.

  30. Perform rolling compensation.

    Push the vehicle forward using the LH (driver's side) rear tire. Insert the wheel chocks (1080589-00-A) once the vehicle has been rolled forward. Turn and slip plates should automatically unlock.
  31. Apply the brake pedal depressor (1090881-00-A).
  32. Perform caster sweep, then center steering yoke per level bubble, and then lock the steering yoke into position.
  33. Print the vehicle summary and identify which alignment parameters are not within specifications.

    If the alignment parameters are within specifications, go to step 44. Since no alignment was performed, enter correction code 31002100 into the Service Visit activity.
  34. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  35. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  36. Perform the rear toe adjustment.
    70 Nm (51.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Wheel alignment torque wrench kit
    • 21 Fixed head combination wrench

    x2 jam nuts per side, 22 mm

    Loosen the outboard jam nut, and then the inboard nut. Adjust the 21 mm turn buckle as necessary. Tighten the inboard nut, and then outboard nut once adjustment is done.
  37. Perform the front camber adjustment.

    x1 bolt, 21 mm; x1 nut, 22 mm; Torque 130 Nm per side. Adjust if necessary. Set the torque wrench to 101 Nm with the adapter in line with wrench.
  38. Perform the front caster adjustment.

  39. Perform caster sweep, and then center the steering yoke per level bubble, and then lock the steering yoke into position.
  40. Perform the front toe adjustment.

    x1 rod, 14 mm; x1 nut, 21 mm; torque 70 Nm. Adjust if necessary.
  41. Print the vehicle alignment summary, including the before and after results.

    Repeat the adjustment for any parameter that is not within specification.
  42. Install the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  43. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  44. Remove the alignment heads from all four wheels.
  45. Fully lower the alignment rack.
  46. Remove the brake pedal depressor, steering yoke level, and steering wheel holder.
  47. Shift the vehicle into Park.
  48. Release the LH front door latch by pressing on the exterior door handle.
  49. Remove the wheel chocks.
  50. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway (Unlock).
  51. Touch Chassis (damper icon) and then touch Alignment & Tires.
  52. Touch Clear Offset, and then touch Run.
  53. Release the seat belt from the driver buckle.
  54. Remove the suspension from "Jack Mode".
  55. Return the lights to "Auto" mode.
  56. Remove the vehicle from the alignment rack.
  57. Perform test drive.
