Hose - Outlet - Rear Drive Unit (3DU) (Remove and Replace)

Remove
-
Raise and support the vehicle.
- Open the LH front door.
- Lower all four windows
- Open the hood.

Power off the vehicle using the
touchscreen.

Remove the rear apron.
-
Remove HEPA filter assembly
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Pivot rearward edge up and past brake reservoir, Then lift up to clear frunk assembly

Remove HEPA duct
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm, 1x datum, 2x ears, Release datum then release ears from bulkhead studs
-
Disconnect the 12V negative battery
cable and First Responder Loop.

Remove RH rear wheel cap
Note1x cap, Use both hands to gently pull the wheel cap to release the clips, Wheels may be equipped with center caps
-
Loosen RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
- Partially raise the vehicle, and then lower the lift onto the locks.

Remove RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
-
Remove top clip securing outlet hose
to RDU
Note1x clip, Located between subframe and body
- Fully raise the vehicle, and then lower the lift onto the locks.

Remove mid aero shield
Note11x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Fasteners may vary, MYSP will have one less bolt
-
Remove both LH and RH push clips
securing mid aero shield to wheel house liner
Note2x clips

Release clip securing coolant hose to
RH shear plate
Note1x fir tree clip
-
Release RH side hose clips from rear
battery skid plate
Note2x fir tree clips
-
Remove front clips securing outlet
hose to RDU
Note2x clips
-
Position coolant drain underneath RH
rear of HV battery
-
Remove clips securing RH rear wheel
liner to rocker panel
Note2x clips, Move liner aside

Disconnect coolant outlet hose to rear
PT return hose and plug hoses
Note1x spring clip, 2x plugs, Use shop towel to clean any residue coolant inside RH rocker panel if necessary

Remove clip securing outlet hose to
RDU heat exchanger
Note1x clip
-
Release coolant outlet hose from RDU
heat exchanger
Note1x hose clip, Use a foldable funnel as required,
-
Remove RDU outlet hose from RDU
assembly
NoteGently wiggle hose out from the subframe
Install
-
Install RDU outlet hose to RDU
assembly
NoteGently install the hose to the subframe,Pay attention to protecting the hose during installation

Secure coolant outlet hose onto RDU
heat exchanger
Note1x spring clip, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated, Remove any plugs

Install clip securing outlet hose to
RDU heat exchanger
Note1x clip
-
Remove hose plugs and connect coolant
outlet hose to rear PT return hose
Note1x spring clip, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated, Use shop towel to clean any coolant residue if necessary.Loss of coolant greater than 1L requires coolant vacuum fill

Install clips securing RH rear wheel
liner to rocker panel
Note2x clips

Install front clips securing outlet
hose to RDU
Note2x clips,It is necessary to reach into the gap between the subframe and the RDU by hand or use the long screwdrive

Install RH side hose clips to rear
battery skid plate
Note2x fir tree clips
-
Install clip securing coolant hoses to
RH shear plate
Note1x fir tree clip

Apply Loctite 222 onto mid aero shield
bolts and install mid aero shield
Note11x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Fasteners may vary, Model Y Structural Pack has one less bolt and one extra clip

Install both LH and RH push clips
securing mid aero shield to wheel house liner
Note2x clips
- Remove coolant drain container from underneath vehicle
-
Lower vehicle partially and set onto
locks
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered, Set vehicle to comfortable working height

Install top clip securing outlet hose
to RDU
Note1x clip, Located between subframe and body
-
Install RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Start lug nuts by hand before using power tool
-
Lower vehicle until tires are touching
ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

Torque RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
-
Install RH rear wheel cap
Note1x cap, Align valve stem with wheel cap cavity
-
Remove coolant bottle cap
-
Inspect coolant level and top off as
necessary
NoteEnsure coolant is filled using G-48 coolant

Connect the First Responder Loop and
12V negative battery cable.

Access thermal system routines via
UI
NoteSelect quick controls > Service mode > Thermal

Run ODIN routine

- Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge

Inspect coolant level and top off as

Install coolant bottle cap

Install HEPA duct
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm, 1x datum, 2x ears, Secure ears onto bulkhead studs then secure datum

Install HEPA filter assembly
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Pivot forward edge down past frunk assembly, Then carefully move rear edge past brake reservoir and into position, Gently press on RH side of filter to seat seal onto duct, Rework requires new bolts
-
Install the rear apron.
- Close the hood.
- Raise all four windows
- Close the LH front door.

Remove vehicle from lift
NoteLower rack arms fully and remove from under vehicle
