CAUTION
The fluids provided below represent the fluids used and approved for use. Using alternative fluids that are not approved by Tesla is done at the risk of the individual repairer and any damage that occurs as a result is not covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or Used Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Air Conditioning

The air conditioning system is filled with 1234yf refrigerant.

If oil needs to be added to the system, use only POE RB100EV (part number 1994534-00-A) or equivalent.

CAUTION
Do not mix different types of air conditioning system oil. Different Tesla models may use different oils.

Note
For calculations, both ND-11 and RB100EV compressor oils have a density of 0.98 grams/ml at 15°C.
  • Given a value in grams, divide by 0.98 to find the value in ml (milliliters or cc).
  • Given a value in ml (milliliters or cc), multiply by 0.98 to find the value in grams.
If ultraviolet dye needs to be added to the system to troubleshoot a leak, the following leak detector injection kit and refill leak detector dye are Tesla-approved for all Tesla refrigerant systems.

Coolant

The cooling system contains an ethylene glycol (phosphate and nitrate free) based coolant.

  • 1029320-00-A, ETHYLENE GLYCOL COOLANT - 50/50 MIX - 1 Gallon
  • 1061466-00-A, ETHYLENE GLYCOL COOLANT - 50/50 MIX - 55 Gallon Drum

The overall concentration of ethylene glycol should not fall below 50% by volume to make sure that the anti-corrosion properties of the coolant are maintained.

Concentrations of ethylene glycol greater than 60% are not recommended as cooling efficiency will be impaired.

Tesla G-48 coolant is a pre-mixed 50/50 solution of ethylene glycol and water. The coolant is ready to use. Do not add water.

CAUTION
Tesla cannot provide warranties for any type of coolant other than Tesla G-48 coolant. Use of other coolants is at your own risk.

Gearbox Fluid

To reduce gearbox fluid variances and improve drive unit efficiency, service centers are to transition to KAF1 gearbox fluid for all vehicle drive units. When refilling or topping up drive unit gearboxes, first deplete supplies of the specified SK 212-B, ATF-9, and EDF2 gearbox fluids, and only then substitute with KAF1. KAF1 gearbox fluid is fully backwards compatible with the SK 212-B, ATF-9, and EDF2 gearbox fluids, and incidental mixing of the specified fluid with KAF1 is permitted. Eventually, service centers will only stock KAF1 fluid.

CAUTION
SK 212-B gearbox fluid is reddish, ATF-9 and EDF2 fluids are dark purple, and KAF1 fluid is amber colored. If you are unable to determine what fluid is in the drive unit, refill or top up with only KAF1. Do not mix SK 212, ATF-9, or EDF2 gearbox fluids with each other.
  • For all drive units use KAF1 (part number 1646886-02-A or 1646886-04-A)
